Saturday we welcomed leaders of the Covenant churches in Kenya and South Sudan along with Bob and Jan Thornbloom. These guests are the first of 24 foreign guests to arrive for the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Covenant’s ministry in Africa.
Simon Kamau, President of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Kenya, and Matthew Malual, Director of Projects for the Evangelical Covenant Church of South Sudan, were invited to attend this bit celebration. This is Simon’s first trip outside of Kenya. Matthew has traveled to Ethiopia and Uganda for studies. During the week before the celebration Simon and Matthew will give a seminar on development to CEUM leaders on Monday and then visit the Kanana experimental farm and Loko station before returning to Karawa later in the week. Simon got to know the CEUM leadership, President Mboka and VP Vungbo, when he hosted them in Kenya for their month of concentrated English classes mid-February to mid-March.One of the other dynamics taking place is the interaction between these leaders of Covenant churches in Africa. There is a deep, deep sense of joy, of pleasure in being here, meeting other church leaders, sharing life and ministry. Already after one day they are learning from each other. It gives us great joy in having been able to help make this happen. We look forward to the interactions through the days ahead.
And, today Simon preached at the Bokonzo church with me translating. It was a wonderful service.
