About the Family Foundation

Most, though not all, of our work is centered around the ministries of an organization here in Monterrey called FUNDEFAM.  Here is a description of who FUNDEFAM is and what they do:

About FUNDEFAM

The Family Development Foundation (FUNDEFAM) is a Covenant non-profit in Monterrey, Mexico that seeks to provide resources that help families identify and meet their needs and the families of their community from a Christian perspective.  Our vision is that the families within the communities we serve fully develop into the image of their Creator, living in faith, justice and love all which provide a purpose for life and encourage a personal and social tranformation.

Who does FUNDEFAM serve?

Currently FUNDEFAM primarily serves two communities.  The first community is called “Dos Cerros” (Two Hills), comprised of several low-income neighborhoods located in front of our building on the south side of the city.  This is a relationship-based ministry, walking along side families and individuals from this community, many of which have not yet committed their lives to Jesus and are struggling with issues related to living in urban poverty.  These relationships have evolved into formal programs such as women’s, youth and kid’s clubs with English, computer, arts and crafts, music, health classes, as well as Bible studies and discipleship opportunities.  Each program has their special outings, service opportunities and events as well.

The second community is called Project Down and is formed by families that come from all corners of the large city with the commonality of having a child with Down Syndrome.  As you may imagine, there are far fewer resources for children with special needs in Mexico, so this support community is a crucial part in the lives of these families, providing both the emotional support as a community as well as increased access to resources.

We also continue to offer healthy family courses focusing on Parenting, marriage enrichment, conflict resolution and domestic violence prevention to groups in both these communities as well as outside these communities, for example in schools, businesses, etc.
