CHICAGO, IL (July 20, 2011) – CHIC 2012 organizers are rolling out the names of a new speaker or musician on “Findout Friday” each week on their website.

The latest name to be released is Efrem Smith, superintendent of the Pacific Southwest Conference. Smith’s address to the students at the 2009 CHIC was considered among the highlights.

The high-energy triennial Christian youth conference attracts thousands of students from around the world and will be held July 15-20, 2012, at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. During the week, students gather for small-group Bible study and devotions, large group gatherings with speakers and music, and a plethora of outdoor recreation opportunities.

The event is open to high-school students who are completing grades 9-12 in the 2011-12 school year and are at least 15 years old by September 1, 2012. Students may attend a second time if they are just completing high school in 2012.

The vision of CHIC 2012 focuses on:

Being – A Christ-centered community of students

Knowing – Students are confident in their relationship with Christ.

Doing – Students are committed to doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with their God.

Youth groups exposed to new ministries have returned to their churches and helped launch new outreaches. Since being introduced to Feed My Starving Children, an organization dedicated to feeding people who suffer the most from malnutrition and hunger, Covenanters have packed well beyond one million meals that have been shipped around the world.

At CHIC 2009, students and adults raised $109,327 for Covenant World Relief projects in Thailand that helped complete a food mill, providing jobs and nutrition for many Thai families.

The Department of Christian Formation sponsors the gathering. Early registration is now available.
