The building was constructed in 1933. The church was founded in 1885 and closed in 2006 due to declining membership.
Members of the congregation posted a video on YouTube of preparations for the burn as well as the fire.
Medical Teams Seeks Covenanters to Assist Haiti Clinic
PORTLAND, OR – Medical Teams International (MTI), a partner organization of Covenant World Relief, is again seeking Covenanters to participate in mission trips to serve at Clinic Canaan.
The cholera epidemic has been contained, so MTI is accepting registrations of a broader range of medical personnel. The organization would like to send one team each month.
Medical Teams is looking for physicians who are comfortable serving as internists or generalists as well as physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and paramedics.
The approximate cost for each volunteer is $60 per day, which includes food, lodging, and local transportation. Airfare is extra.
The clinic was the first one set up in the tent city of Canaan, which has a population of 30,000 people.

Covenant Minister to Serve as Visiting Scholar
EVANSTON, IL – Evangelical Covenant Church minister Jack Lundbom will join the faculty of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Lundbom is an internationally respected authority on Jeremiah, which he will teach at Garrett. He has also explored topics in Deuteronomy, the Prophets, rhetorical criticism, and Hebrew.
Some of his most well known works include the three-volume commentary Jeremiah in the Anchor Yale Bible Commentary Series and Jeremiah: A Study in Ancient Hebrew Rhetoric. He also has a commentary on Deuteronomy that is scheduled for publication in 2013.
It’s nice to read that Jack’s “Jeremiah smile” is returning to the Chicago area.

It seems a shame to burn a building. Too bad a use couldn’t be found for it.
