Mbote mingi – (from what I remember, that means “big hello” in Lingala).

On October 6, I had the privilege of leading a Vision Trip to Congo with Covenant missionary, Keith Gustafson. Mission in Congo has been part of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) for over 70 years, but with the Civil War in 1997, staff were unable to live in country. That has since changed. Seven missionaries live in Bokonzo and Karawa, Keith still commutes from Seattle, and there are three more short-term missionaries preparing to go. Continue Reading »



The Movement of God in Thailand

I knew very little about the work prior to traveling to Thailand. Thankfully, my ignorance was broken as we traveled discovering the work of God in the lives of people and creation throughout Thailand.

The work is alive – the church is dynamic; the ministry holistic, and the structures supportive. Without overly romanticizing the work in Thailand, it is clear that the missio Dei is evermore embraced by the believers in this part of the world. Leaders and participants in Thailand spoke of their faith as a movement. The grammars of faith were kinetic not institutional; pentecostal not overly pious. The life in Christ movement throughout Thailand is a dynamic and powerful movement – from God for people (and creation). Continue Reading »



EuroVision Reflection by Pastor Greg

I embarked on my Eurovision experience with great anticipation.  For over 25 years I have served as a Covenant pastor in the Central Conference and I have always been impressed and supportive of our denomination’s outreach through Covenant World Mission.  Serving in two Covenant churches in the metro Chicago area, I have had the opportunity to get to know personally some of our Covenant missionaries, including several of those currently serving in Europe.  When the Covenant announced the Eurovision trip in 2010, I knew I wanted to go so that I could experience their ministries first hand and come to understand the blessings and challenges of their particular context.  I felt this would enable me to be more supportive of them as a Covenant pastor and a better advocate for Covenant World Mission with my congregation.  I was not disappointed!
