CHICAGO, IL (December 21, 2009) – Churches across the Northeast region of the United States closed this past weekend due to record snowfalls that blanketed much of the region.

SnowMembers of some churches chose instead to meet together in homes. One congregation was Highrock Covenant Church, where five families opened their homes for Bible study and prayer.

Others made light of the heavy snow. Christ Covenant Church sent out an email with a “modified” photo depicting snow falling in the sanctuary.
East Coast Conference Superintendent Howard Burgoyne reports confirmed closings of churches in Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. He says at least 33 churches have been confirmed, though the number is likely higher.

By Monday morning, however, snowplows had cleared streets well enough to allow many staff members of various church offices to make it into work.
