CALEDONIA, MI (December 21, 2009) – Redeemer Covenant Church has developed a reputation in the community for its brilliant displays during Christmas. Although this year’s decorations are not as dazzling, they will bring smiles to many.

The church has lined the aisle to the altar with canned goods as well as piles of hats, gloves and scarves.

Pastor Jack Brown said the congregation believed providing the items to people in the midst of the economic downturn was more important than spending up to $300 on poinsettias, as had been the church’s history.

A congregation member came up with the idea for decorating the church with the gifts, and the congregation enthusiastically embraced it.

The gifts will be distributed through a local food pantry.
