LIVONIA, MI (November 25, 2009) – Trinity Covenant Church has designated Saturday a day of prayer and fasting for their pastor, Michael Van Horn, who remains in an induced coma at Detroit Medical Center (DMC). The day will culminate with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church.

Van Horn entered Garden City Hospital November 5 with pneumonia, says Cal Garfield, an elder at the church. He had missed church the previous Sunday and complained of flu-like symptoms.

After Van Horn was admitted to the hospital, doctors induced the coma to help with the healing, Garfield says. Although the pneumonia appears to have been successfully treated, physicians have been unable to reawaken him.

Van Horn was transferred to DMC on November 19. Doctors are now focusing on possible neurological issues, Garfield says.

Garfield says an immediate recovery is not expected, and elders decided Tuesday night to bring in an interim pastor. In the meantime, elders will be providing care and maintaining weekly contact with other members.

In addition to serving his local congregation, Van Horn has taught theology and worship arts related courses at North Park Theological Seminary.
