ASHEBORO, NC (October 30, 2009) – Three pastors of Central Carolina Community Covenant Church raised more than $1,200 and collected more than 50 sleeping bags for the homeless by spending 43 hours on the roof of the church.

Pastors Frankie Gentry and Phil Isley, as well as member Shane Bryson, asked people and local companies to sponsor them per hour. They also invited area residents to bring canned foods for Christian’s United Outreach Center, a ministry to low-income residents of Asheboro. The church took most of the sleeping bags to the Family Crisis Center in Asheboro.

A trip by the church’s youth group to New York City to minister to the homeless and the marginalized inspired the pastors to bring attention to the issue in their own community. The event was held October 2-4, and another is planned for February.
