Children made baby blankets that were donated to the Northwest Children’s Outreach (NCO) program. The students delivered the blankets to the NCO warehouse where they also packed clothing for children in need.
The kids also made activity bags for Shepherd’s Door, which is the women and children’s division of the local rescue mission. The students delivered the bags to the mission, too.
The children’s ministry also held a “carnival to feed the hungry.” The kids won tickets at booth games and turned them in for cans of food that were then donated to the Oregon Food Bank.
Claudine Beckley, who organized the children’s ministry this year, explained that it is important for children to give, and not just hear about Christ’s love, if they are truly going to experience it.
The ministry was rooted in Mark 12:30-31: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
Depending on their age, students also visited the zoo or a local park.
