Thursday Service Set for Missionary Rachel Wood

ROCKFORD, IL (June 16, 2009) – A service of Witness to the Resurrection will be conducted for retired Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Rachel (Carson) Wood at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda Covenant Church. Wood, 75, died Sunday.

She was born April 29, 1934, in Moose Lake, Minnesota, and grew up attending Moose Lake Covenant Church. Wood graduated from North Park College in 1954 and the University of Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor of Education degree in 1958.

She married David Wood on August 2, 1958, in Moose Lake. The couple served the Calvary Covenant Church in Joliet, Illinois, for one year.

The Woods served in Congo from 1959 to 1994. They lived in 32 houses before purchasing their first home in Rockford, Illinois, in 1995.

The couple also served the Zion Covenant Church in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, for seven years.

Survivors include her husband and three children: two daughters, Naomi Wood and Judy Edstrom; and a son, and John Wood.
