Paralympics Swimmer Inspires Others in Road Race
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (May 21, 2009) – Elizabeth Stone, who attends First Covenant Church, was featured in a front page article of The Grand Rapids Press for her participation in the River Bank Run 25K.
Stone, 18, has had a prosthetic leg since she was four years old, and has competed in two Paralympics as a swimmer. She captured a silver medal in the 100-meter backstroke S9 disability category in Beijing last year.
She began running three months ago with a running foot. Her longest previous road race had been a 15K.
Stone finished with a time of about two hours and 40 minutes. “I feel pretty good,” she told the newspaper. “I had a little bit more energy at the end than I thought. I’m happy with the result. My goal was to stay under 3 hours and I did that.”
