Sara was born December 23, 1922, in Elkhorn, Montana. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from Gordon College in Boston, Massachusetts; a bachelor of divinity degree from Gordon Divinity School in Boston; and studied at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois.
He married Carol Henderson on April 3, 1948. She survives.
Sara served Glendale Covenant Congregational Church in Everett, Massachusetts; First Mission Covenant in Kewanee, Illinois; Winston Manor Community Covenant Church in South San Francisco, California; First Covenant Church in Bremerton, Washington; Sioux Falls Covenant Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Pilgrim Covenant Church in Lunenburg, Massachusetts; and First Covenant Church in River Falls, Wisconsin; Trailer Estate Covenant Church in Bradenton, Florida; and Tri-Park Covenant Church in Sarasota, Florida.
In addition to his wife, Sara is survived by his son, John Sara III; and daughter, Margaret Bennett.
Interment will be at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida.
