“The selfless gift from Bluewater now allows students from Europe, who are persecuted daily in school for being Christians, to now have a chance—even if it is only for five days—to see thousands of youth, just like themselves, worshiping God and diving deeper into the word,” says Aaron Thompson, a Covenant missionary who has been serving in Gothenburg as an international youth pastor. He is on staff at Fiskebäcks Missionskyrkan and Fisher’s Creek International Church.
“It is a small camp . . . but it has a large heart to give!”
Bluewater leaders decided to raise the money last year to support Thompson’s ministry. He had worked at the camp for several years, and campers who had known him were eager to contribute, says Director Chad Persons.
“It is a small camp tucked away in northern Minnesota, but it has a large heart to give!” declares Thompson.
The experience of giving to someone they knew also helped the campers to understand that mission work is a real opportunity for them, says Persons.
Thirteen people, including Thompson, will travel to CHIC: nine Swedish youth, one Swedish youth pastor, and two international youth. He hopes they will have a powerful experience at the event just as he did as a teenager.
“I know that CHIC changed my life. That is why I am a missionary today,” Thompson says.
The Swedish group will travel to Bluewater after CHIC. The triennial event will be held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, July 12-17.
