CHICAGO, IL (March 11, 2009) – This Sunday, it is anticipated that members of Covenant churches will bring the names of more than 300,000 people to the front of their congregations as they pledge to pray for family members and others who have not yet made a decision to follow Christ.

Each year on Bringing My World to Christ Sunday, more than 14,000 Covenanters bring forth names, says Lisa Orris, director of evangelism for the Evangelical Covenant Church. The names are then collected at regional conference annual meetings, and all are finally gathered together at the Covenant Annual Meeting in June.

Orris says the commitment to pray is essential to evangelism. “It is the starting point, when through prayer we begin to see God’s heart for people.”

She adds that as Covenanters pray, they also commit to doing acts of kindness, sharing Christ’s love as the opportunity arises and simply being a friend over time, even if others appear to have no interest in spiritual matters.
