Church Offers Alternative Halloween Event

LOS ANGELES, CA – More than 400 people turned out for Light the Night, an event sponsored by Redeemer Community Partnership on Halloween in a neighborhood where many of the people do not leave their homes after dark.

The partnership, a community development organization was founded by Covenant Church of the Redeemer in Los Angeles and is now a sister ministry to the church.

The event was held in a neighborhood in which the ministries president, Richard Parks, says, “We limit our trips out and do not walk the streets after dark.” Just a week before the event, a young man was shot in the chest.

The event featured many activities for children, including bounce houses and a concert by a Christian rap group. “Many remarked on how encouraged they were to see our community come together.”

At an information table, more than 20 people expressed interest in a Bible study, 20 signed up to join a new neighborhood watch group, and 30 women said they would be interested in a mom’s club.
