CHICAGO, IL (November 10, 2008) – The Covenant Executive Board has commenced its search for a nominee to fill the position of executive minister of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).

The position became open when Gary Walter assumed his new responsibilities as president on September 1, following his election in June.

The ECC Constitution and Bylaws state that the nomination process is conducted by the Executive Board. The process begins with the posting of the position until December 1, 2008. A nominating committee will narrow the number of individuals under consideration and invite a group to submit materials for consideration, including an updated Covenant Minister’s Profile. A smaller number will be invited to interview beginning in January.

A nominee will be announced no later than the Executive Board meeting March 13-15, 2009, and perhaps as early as the Midwinter Pastors Conference February 2-6, 2009. The election will take place during the 124th Covenant Annual Meeting June 25-28 in Portland, Oregon. Other nominations may be made from the floor of the Annual Meeting.

The committee welcomes the entire ECC to submit names for consideration until December 1. All names must be submitted in writing, and include supporting rationale. Please forward names to CGE Nominating Committee, 5101 N. Francisco Ave., Chicago, IL, 60625, or email names to cgesearch@covchurch.org.

Members of the nominating committee are: Samuel Chang, Mark Eix, Lisa Hutcherson, Alynne MacLean, Jane Matheson, Dan Wickman, Kim Carlson, Carol Friar, Carla Thelander, Chris Breuninger (Executive Board chair), Mark Novak (superintendent liaison), Donn Engebretson, and Gary Walter.

John Notehelfer, retired superintendent of the Pacific Southwest Conference, is serving as interim executive minister of the department.
