SACRAMENTO, CA (October 9, 2008) – Sherwood Carthen, pastor of Bayside of South Sacramento Covenant Church, will be one of the keynote speakers at Mission Possible, an event focusing on helping inmates re-enter society upon their release from prison.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. on October 16 at the Radisson Hotel in Sacramento. It is a pre-conference event for the 2008 National Prisoner Re-Entry Conference sponsored by the Christian Association for Prisoner Aftercare (CAPA).

According to CAPA, 75 percent of inmates who will be released will be re-incarcerated. Contributing to that high percentage is a lack of resources for prisoners to transition back into the mainstream of society.

“The event is designed to inspire, inform and ignite fellow leaders and believers, especially those not presently involved in any kind of prisoner ministry,” says Carol Davis, executive director of the Mission of Grace Foundation and a member of Valley Hi Covenant Church in Sacramento. The foundation is participating in the conference.
