BIHAR, INDIA (September 10, 2008) – Even as the Hindustani Covenant Church (HCC) deals with violence in the eastern state of Orissa, the denomination is working in the northeastern state of Bihar, where 1,600 villages are under water due to floods.

HCC Moderator Steven David says the victims “have lost everything and have no means to survive.”

Floodwaters have wreaked havoc in 31 districts and affected more than six million people in Bihar and the state of Assam, according to news reports. The waters have started to recede, but the threat of disease remains.

Floodwaters have killed at least 108 people and forced 320,000 people into government-run relief camps.
