ASHEBORO, NC (September 2, 2008) – Central Carolina Community Covenant (C4) has designated the fifth Sunday of each month as “Bring Your Can to Church” Sunday.

“If you forget your can, you are directed next door to the grocery store to pick up some food before you come inside,” says pastor Ed Arroyo.

The church held a similar Sunday on July 6 that was popular with the congregation. People brought a grocery bag of canned food or non-perishable items to fill the shelf of a local ministry, Christians United Outreach Center (CUOC).

“This event has been a tremendous lift and a rallying point for our church,” Arroyo says. “All too often the church gets away from its original calling as we become in-grown and stagnate.”

Arroyo says the recent experience has led the church to expand its cooperation with the CUOC. The congregation will work with the ministry’s “Room in the Inn” program, which provides shelter and food to the homeless.

“We will be hosting those folks for a week at a time, spending the night at the home and ministering to the residents,” Arroyo says. The church’s small group ministry also will become involved with the project.
