CHICAGO, IL  (August 26, 2008) – Rick Fisk, president of Covenant Retirement Communities, has been named a Distinguished Alumni of Ashland Theological Seminary, Ashland, Ohio.

The award recognizes alumni who use their ministry competencies to make a difference for the kingdom of God in their own neighborhood, according to Eric Sandberg, the school’s director of marketing and recruitment. This year, the seminary recognized six alumni in five categories of service: global ministry, community transformation, counseling, pastoral leadership, and academics.

Fisk was honored in the community transformation category. “Transforming a community requires walking on the edge where Christ meets culture and, in Jesus’s words, being light and salt to those who live there,” Sandberg said.

The award recognized Fisk’s lifetime efforts, particularly his 15 years of service to senior adults in faith-based retirement housing organizations. As president of CRC, Fisk leads 14 retirement communities that are home to 5,500 senior adults nationwide. The organization, owned by the Evangelical Covenant Church, is the fifth largest not-for-profit senior housing provider in the United States. It also annually provides more than $10 million in benevolent assistance to seniors who cannot afford housing and care.
