Memorial Service Saturday for Clarence Winstedt

TURLOCK, CA (August 12, 2008) – A memorial service for 86-year-old Clarence Winstedt will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Covenant Village of Turlock.

Winstedt, a longtime Evangelical Covenant Church minister and denominational leader, died Monday.

He was born April 30, 1922 in DeKalb, Illinois, and grew up attending the Evangelical Covenant Church. He married Rowene Broman on June 6, 1945. She preceded him in death March 19, 1997. He married Ruth Honnette in 1998. She survives.

He served as pastor of Oakdale Covenant Church in Chicago, Illinois; Trinity Covenant Church in Livingston, New Jersey; and First Covenant Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Windstedt served as superintendent of the Central Conference from 1976-1983, was director of church growth and evangelism for the Pacific Southwest Conference from 1983-1985, and then served as that conference’s interim superintendent from 1985-1987.
Following his retirement, he served the conference, denomination and Hillcrest Covenant Church in Walnut Creek, California, in various capacities.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Karen Walsh and Renelle Nelson. Memorials may be sent to Cornerstone Covenant Church in Turlock or the Covenant Benevolence Fund in care of the Covenant Village of Turlock.
