Accidents Claim Lives of Two Young Covenanters

CHICAGO, IL (July 30, 2008) – Automobile accidents over the weekend claimed the lives of two young Covenanters, with funeral and memorial services to be conducted over the next several days.

Paul Tonn, youngest son of Gary and Nina Tonn, died Saturday night in an accident near Richmond, Virginia. Tonn was in Richmond as part an internship program in a golf course management program. His father is pastor of United Covenant church in Clear Lake, Wisconsin.

A funeral service for Tonn will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with visitation observed one hour before the service. Visitation also will be observed from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday and a memorial service held on Saturday for former Southwest Minnesota State University men’s basketball player Andy Wiersma who died Sunday afternoon in a two-car accident.

Wiersma was a member of Excelsior Covenant Church in Excelsior, Minnesota. The Thursday funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the R/A Facility on the university campus, with the Saturday memorial service to begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Excelsior church, 19955 Excelsior Blvd., according to Kyle Small, associate pastor. Visitation will be observed today (Wednesday) from 4-8 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church, 2667 County Road 7 (Airport Road), in Marshall, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
