CHICAGO, IL (July 18, 2008) – Adam Phillips, pastor of Resurrection Covenant Church, is among several people featured in a new video by Bread for the World (BFTW) encouraging churches to participate in the organization’s 2008 Offering of Letters.

Through its Offering of Letters campaign, BFTW, a partner of the Evangelical Covenant Church, urges church members to write letters to Congress during the worship service in support of hunger-fighting legislation.

“Writing a letter to my Congressman is a way for me to be evangelical and to share the good news that God cares for hungry people,” Phillips says in the video. Covenant churches across the country have participated in a previous Offering of Letters campaign.

To learn more about the campaign, see Letters.

BFTW also has released Bread for the Preacher, which provides lectionary-based resources on hunger and poverty that can be downloaded.

Bread for the Preacher material is free and delivered to the email inbox of pastors. The resource includes:

  • Lectionary-based reflections on hunger and poverty
  • Prayers and other worship resources
  • Bulletin inserts and announcements
  • Information about additional resources and opportunities

“We created this resource in response to the request of many of our member churches,” said Gary Cook, director of Church Relations at Bread for the World.

Church leaders can sign up by visiting the BFTW website and entering their email in the “newsletter sign-up” box on the homepage. They will then be taken to a page to fill out contact information and check the “Bread for the Preacher” box in the online newsletters section.
