GREEN LAKE, WI (June 17, 2008) – Preparations are nearly complete for The Feast celebration that begins Saturday at the Green Lake Conference Center, which has not been significantly affected by heavy rains that have pelted much of the state for the past several days.

The 123rd Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, the day following the conclusion of The Feast, with the Annual Meeting concluding Thursday evening with the traditional ordination worship service.

The conference center is nestled along the shores of Green Lake in an incredibly beautiful part of Wisconsin, notes Feast planning director Lisa Orris, who along with Feast Planning Committee member Fredrik Wall toured the conference grounds on Monday to check progress on various preparation details.

The unusually high lake level has flooded the Green Lake marinas, Orris notes, rendering boat launch ramps unusable. She recommends that families who had planned on bringing boats not do so, given the condition of the marinas. For those interested in additional weather-related travel information, Orris recommends a visit to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website.

Published news reports have suggested that vast areas of Wisconsin are flooded and roads are impassable, Orris notes. “While that may be true in various regions, that is not the case at the conference center,” Orris says. The conference center’s terrain has left that area high and dry, she observes. “We do not anticipate that participants will encounter any difficulty reaching the conference center,” she adds.

Work is nearly completed on construction of a temporary outdoor tabernacle where worship services and business sessions will take place, Orris reports. “The intent was to recapture the nostalgic atmosphere of the old campground tent meeting,” she says. “The tabernacle is located in a large, gorgeous, open green space on the conference grounds – it’s just beautiful.”

Additional updates will be provided in this online Covenant news reports as they become available.
