CHICAGO, IL (April 8, 2008) – Applications are being accepted for the position of assistant director of finance in the offices of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The Alford Group Executive Search is conducting the search process.

The assistant director will perform accounting and financial reporting for the church, Paul Carlson Partnership, and Women Ministries, with general oversight of accounting and financial reporting for Covenant Development Corporation and Covenant Pension Plan. The person also will supervise payroll, receipting, accounts payable, and subscriptions functions and will coordinate annual audits and reviews.

The assistant director of finance will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day financial operations of:

  • Covenant Coordinated Budget
  • Covenant Pension Plan
  • Risk management and property/liability insurance programs
  • Investment programs
  • Financial management of various other projects and activities for the denomination
  • Midwinter Conference, Annual Meeting, CHIC, Covenant World Relief, Paul Carlson Partnership, and any other events
  • Sustaining Pastoral Excellence, special projects, and others

The ideal candidate will have proven knowledge and experience in fund accounting and in-depth knowledge of related FASB regulations. Experience preparing audits is required, and previous responsibility for multiple audit reports is strongly preferred. Knowledge of accounting systems is needed as is the ability to learn new software. Successful candidates must have the ability to compile, produce, and interpret accounting reports.

Additionally, the position will support the ECC by assisting the Executive Board, Council of Administrators, and other boards and commissions by preparing financial summaries in a fashion understandable to Covenant employees without a financial background and providing the necessary infrastructure to distribute financial information around the organization.

The assistant director will report to Elliott Johnson, director of finance/controller, and will supervise three full-time staff members responsible for payroll, accounts payable, and receipting. The assistant director must be able to foster a cooperative team environment, assist in cross-training employees, and be able to work independently.
