Services Scheduled for Gladys Westberg

GOLDEN VALLEY, MN (April 8, 2008) – A memorial service for retired missionary Gladys (Rudine) Westberg, 83, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brookdale Covenant Church in Brooklyn Center. She died Friday.

Visitation is from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.

Westberg was born December 30, 1924, in Seneca, South Dakota. She graduated with a bachelor’s of music degree from Wheaton College in 1946. She married Harry Westberg in 1948.

The couple went to Japan in 1952 as missionaries with the Evangelical Covenant Church. They served 30 years in the country, where she taught English, served in women’s ministries, and played the organ.

After returning from Japan, the couple served interim pastorates in Rochester, Minnesota, and Ellsworth, Wisconsin. They returned to Japan in 1995 to serve a church for 14 months. Harry remains on staff at Brookdale Covenant.

Besides Harry, her survivors include three daughters, Joanna Sjoblom, Julie Harris, and Lois Seely; and two sons, Daniel Westberg and David Westberg; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
