MINNEAPOLIS, MN (March 17, 2008) – The Minnehaha Academy girl’s basketball team fell short of capturing the state AAA championship over the weekend.

After winning their opening contest against Fergus Falls, the fourth-seeded Redhawks fell to top-ranked DeLaSalle 54-44 in the semifinal match-up. They subsequently lost 65-52 to second seed Rogers in the contest for third place.

Minnehaha Academy had averaged 74.9 points and a state-best 19.5 steals per game. The 49-44 overtime victory against Fergus Falls proved costly when one of its best players, sophomore Rachel Hanson (14 points, 14 rebounds per game), was forced out of the tournament with a knee injury.

It was the third trip to the state contest for the Redhawks. The academy is affiliated with the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church and educates students in preschool through high school.
