The position provides leadership and oversight of the AVA network, which currently includes 16 trained regional coordinators. The coordinators equip local churches to minister to victims of domestic violence and childhood sexual abuse. AVA currently focuses its efforts on adult women who have been victims of domestic violence and adult women who were sexually abused as a child.
DeVaughn has more than 28 years experience as a senior human resources professional in public higher education and corporations. She recently retired as director of strategic planning in the area of human resources and benefits for the University of California at Berkley.
DeVaughn also is a seasoned Bible teacher, pulpit minister and speaker with more than 40 years experience working in diverse faith-based and non-faith environments. She is a trained AVA regional coordinator and has worked extensively in her community related to the abuse of women.
“I am thrilled the Lord led Yvonne to accept this position,” says Ruth Hill, Women Ministries executive minister. “She is incredibly gifted in so many ways to provide the leadership that is needed right now and has such a passion for the AVA ministry. AVA will move to new levels of excellence.”
