Memorial Service Honors Gordon E. Anderson

JAMESTOWN, NY (February 5, 2008) – Covenant News Service has learned of the death of Gordon E. Anderson, 75, a retired Evangelical Covenant Church pastor who died August 31, 2007.

A memorial service was held September 9 at the Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown. Burial was in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Anderson was born August 3, 1932, in Jamestown. He married Geraldine Brown July 26, 1958.

He graduated from North Park College in 1952 with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. He later earned his Masters Degree in Education at San Francisco State College and doctorate at the University of Buffalo, New York.

Anderson taught high school and was a professor at Jamestown Community College, where he became the division chairman for the Behavioral Science Department before retiring in 1995.

He was ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church in 1996 and served the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Anderson served on the board of directors for North Park University and the board of evangelism for the Great Lakes Conference. He also was ordained with the Conservative Congregational Covenant Churches and served several congregations.

Anderson was a member of Zion Covenant Church in Jamestown, where he served as chair of the Church Council and Sunday school superintendent.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Daniel and David Anderson, both of Bemus Point, New York; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Zion Covenant Church playground fund, 520 Fairmount Avenue, Jamestown NY, 14701.
