CHICAGO, IL (February 1, 2008) – Offices of the Evangelical Covenant Church were closed today due to a major storm system that is expected to drop from six to 10 inches of snow in most parts of the city – and up to a foot of snow in certain suburban areas, mostly to the south towards Indiana and to the north near the Wisconsin border.

“Calls to Covenant offices will not be answered today as no one will be there to manage the switchboard,” observed Donn Engebretson in announcing the closing. Although Chicago public schools remained open, a large number of suburban schools and other public and private offices were closed for the day.

More than 250 flights were cancelled at O’Hare International Airport Thursday afternoon and evening, with the snow continuing to fall steadily throughout the night and this morning. Forecasters expect the worst of the storm to pass through Chicago around noon, with light flurries continuing this afternoon.

A number of participants in the just-concluded 2008 Midwinter Pastors Conference found their flights cancelled Thursday, which was the concluding day of the conference. As one participant put it this morning, “it just lets us say goodbye to one another a second time!”

Classes as part of the Covenant External Orientation Program operated throughout the day today as scheduled.
