CHICAGO, IL (November 13, 2007) – Readers of the Evangelical Covenant Church online news report paid special attention to stories about challenges in October.

Tony Campolo’s challenge for students at North Park University to serve Jesus by serving the poor was the most read story of the month. Campolo spoke at a university chapel service on October 18.

Wildfires in Southern California posed different kinds of challenges for churches and other Covenant institutions. Many Covenanters were among the nearly one million people forced from their homes. Fires came within blocks of the Alpine Camp and Conference Center before shifting direction. Residents of Mount Miguel Covenant Village spent several nights at shelters or other care facilities.

Meanwhile, the Vida Nueva Church in La Coruna, Spain, found itself homeless for several weeks, after the church building was closed down by police. Local authorities believed the congregation has violated sound ordinances. The church and city officials eventually compromised, after determining that the church had not violated the law.
