Four CRC Employees Awarded Peterson Scholarships

CHICAGO, IL (August 2, 2007) – Reflecting a similar commitment to higher education as reflected in scholarships awarded to dependents of employees, Covenant Retirement Communities CRC) has awarded Paul V. Peterson Scholarships to four of its employees.

The Paul V. Peterson Scholarship is awarded to employees enrolled in a class or program that supports and is beneficial to his/her employment with CRC, an individual campus and/or its residents.

The award was created in recognition of past CRC President Paul V. Peterson and his years of commitment to the senior community. The scholarship is funded by CRC and Covenant Ministries of Benevolence (CMB).  Total value of this year’s awards is $5,000.

The 2007 recipients include:

Cheryl Day, a human resources director at Covenant Village of Cromwell. The scholarship is worth $1,000 and will fund her education at the University Connecticut School of Business in Storrs, Connecticut, where she is currently working toward her certificate program for long-term care.

Mary Therese Brown, the assisted living director at The Samarkand, located in Santa Barbara, Califfornia. The scholarship is worth $1,000 and will fund her education at the University of La Verne in La Verne, California, where she will pursue a master’s degree in gerontology.

Pamela Majerczak, a residential aide at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The scholarship is worth $1,000 and will fund her education at Grand Rapids Community College where she will pursue a degree in nursing.

Susan Elster, an activities therapist at Covenant Village of Northbrook in Northbrook, Illinois. The scholarship is worth $2,000 and will fund her education Loyola University where she will pursue a master’s degree in social work.

A selection committee reviewed 24 applications nationwide and based awards on educational and career pursuits consistent with CRC values, an essay demonstrating a defined educational/career goal, and the employee’s good standing with CRC or an individual campus for at least one year.

One of the nation’s largest not-for-profit retirement community organizations, Covenant Retirement Communities administers 14 retirement communities nationwide on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
