PORTLAND, OR (June 24, 2007) – Delegates to the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church honored Kurt Miericke Saturday morning as he ends 16 years of service as superintendent of the Southeast Conference.

Miericke“You took a conference from the achievements of your predecessor, and you have truly moved it forward,” President Glenn Palmberg said.

The president praised Miericke’s “great heart for growing the kingdom,” adding, “Kurt has become a leader in adopting churches and moving the whole church forward in diversity.”

Under Miericke, the conference grew to have at least one church in every state, and the conference has become self-supporting. When Miericke started, the denomination was paying 25 percent of his salary, and most of the churches were in Florida.

See “Kurt Miericke” for a more complete story on his work as superintendent.
