PORTLAND, OR (June 22, 2007) – Two new videos addressing issues of compassion and justice were shown today to delegates attending the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church under way at the Red Lion Hotel in Portland.

The videos, which complement the theme of this year’s meeting, “Rivers of Justice, Bridges of Mercy,” feature vignettes of local Covenant churches engaged in numerous outreach ministries of compassion, as well as three key initiatives focusing on racial righteousness: Sankofa Journey, Journey to Mosaic, and an Invitation to Racial Righteousness.

The new resources also highlight an historical moment in the life of the Covenant – election of the first executive minister of the newly formed Department of Compassion, Mercy and Justice, approved by delegates during last year’s Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Debbie Blue, who has served as director of adult ministries for the Department of Christian Formation, is the nominee for the new position.
