PORTLAND, OR (June 22, 2007) – Delegates to the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church today approved continuation of the Commission on Covenant History for an additional five years. Following is the rationale considered by delegates.

Rationale

The Commission on Covenant History is a standing commission established by the Annual Meeting in 1935 for the purpose of providing guidance and assistance to programs and policies related to the preservation, maintenance and interpretation of the historical records of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Areas of Focus

Key areas of focus for the next five years include:
•    Historical perspective & analysis
•    Acquisition of material (special emphasis on oral histories and ethnic voices)
•    Records retention and collection management
•    Public interaction and accessibility to historical records

Composition
•    The commission will have no fewer than four members, reflecting ethnic and gender representation.
•    Advisors include the Covenant archivist/librarian, two Covenant historians representing North Park University and North Park Theological Seminary, and the managing editor of Covenant Publications.
•    Ex officio members include the president of the ECC and the executive minister of the Department of Communication.

Sponsoring Department
The Department of Communication.

Frequency of Meeting
Quarterly if needed, but no less than twice a year.
