EVANSTON, IL (June 20, 2007) – Members of Sojourner Covenant Church as well as the community combined film, art and letter-writing to heighten awareness of the plight of people in Darfur during a recent event.

“Remembering Rwanda and Saving Darfur” opened with the showing of Hotel Rwanda in the sanctuary. The Academy Award-winning film highlighted the genocide that drew international attention to the plight of the people of this African nation.

The audience discussed their responses to the movie, but also considered what they can do to accelerate responses that they believe have been too few in number and too slow. Following the discussion, attendees wrote letters to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and President Bush.

The church also had set aside space with a cross and table with candles where people could pray. An “artistic expression” table also was set up so people could express their responses through art.
