Funeral Service Monday for Retired Pastor G. Harold Ahlberg

GALESURG, IL (June 7, 2007) – A funeral service for retired Evangelical Covenant Church pastor G. Harold Ahlberg, 86, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Galesburg Covenant Church, located at Jefferson at Dayton streets. A reception at the church will follow.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home in Galesburg.

AhlbergAhlberg died Monday. He was born July 17, 1920, in Worthington, Minnesota, where he attended First Covenant Church. He married his wife, Ruth, on June 16, 1945. She survives.

He received a bachelor’s degree in English from Augsburg College in 1942 and attended North Park College from 1942-1943 and again from 1945-1947. He received a S.T.M (Master’s of Sacred Theology) degree from Andover-Newton Theological School in 1952.

He was ordained in the Covenant in 1947 and served churches in Massachusetts, Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan. At the time of his death, he was pastor emeritus of the Galesburg church.

Ahlberg served in numerous capacities within the Covenant. He was the assistant secretary of Covenant World Mission. He also served on boards that included the Board of Ministry, and was secretary of the Board of Publications and chair and secretary of the Covenant Ministerium. He also served as chair of both the Michigan Conference and Great Lakes Conference boards.

In addition to Ruth, survivors include three sons: David Ahlberg of Du Bois, Pennsylvania; James Ahlberg of Rochelle, Illinois; and Jonathan Ahlberg of Perrysburg, Ohio; and a daughter, Natalie Firestone of Porter, Indiana.

Memorials may be given to the Galesburg Covenant Church or the Galesburg chapter of the American Red Cross.
