CHICAGO, IL (June 5, 2007) – Anyone interested in helping teenagers deal with self-mutilation – cutting – can participate in a conference telephone call with the co-directors of the Center for Youth Ministry Studies at North Park University from 2 to 3 p.m. CDT on Thursday.

Leading the discussion will be Ginny Olson, author of Teenage Girls: Exploring Issues Adolescent Girls Face and Strategies to Help Them, and Jim Dekker. To participate in the call, dial 773-649-8900 and enter the code 1147.

The National Mental Health Association estimates that two million people each year injure themselves in some way. Cutting is the most common form.

To read an account of one Covenanter’s struggle with cutting, see “Redemption on the Razor’s Edge” from the October 2006 issue of The Covenant Companion.

The Center for Youth Ministry Studies is a partnership of North Park University, North Park Theological Seminary, and the Department of Christian Formation of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
