Ahlberg was born July 17, 1920, in Worthington, Minnesota, where he attended First Covenant Church. He married his wife, Ruth, on June 16, 1945.
He received a bachelor’s degree in English from Augsburg College in 1942 and attended North Park College from 1942-1943 and again from 1945-1947. He received a S.T.M (Master’s of Sacred Theology) degree from Andover-Newton Theological School in 1952.
He was ordained in the Covenant in 1947 and served churches in Massachusetts, Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan.
Ahlberg served on numerous boards, including the Board of Ministry, as well as secretary of the Board of Publications and chair and secretary of the Covenant Ministerium. He also served as chair of both the Michigan Conference and Great Lakes Conference boards.
