Memorial Service Friday for Eugene A. Hagberg

GOLDEN VALLEY, MN (April 24, 2007) – A memorial service for retired Evangelical Covenant Church Pastor Eugene A. Hagberg will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Fellowship Center at Covenant Village of Golden Valley, Minnesota.

Hagberg, 88, died Monday at Colonial Acres Health Care Center in Golden Valley.

Hagberg was born July 1, 1918, and was raised in Moline, Illinois, where he was active at First Covenant Church. He graduated from North Park College in 1942 and graduated from North Park Theological Seminary in 1946. He served as the first pastor of Bensonvale Covenant Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He went on to serve Covenant churches in Essex, Iowa, and Duluth (Salem), Minnesota.

Following his pastoral ministry, Hagberg served as co-founder and first administrator of Colonial Acres Health Care Center for 16 years. Colonial Acres is a skilled nursing facility on the campus of Covenant Village, which is operated by Covenant Retirement Communities.

In 1975, Hagberg became administrator of Mt. Miguel Covenant Village in San Diego, California. In 1984 he returned to Colonial Acres where he served as chaplain for eight years until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Becky, in January 2005. Hagberg is survived by sons Ronald and Richard Hagberg; daughter Susan Green; and seven grandchildren.
