CHICAGO, IL (April 16, 2007) – Applications are being accepted for the position of online Covenant Bookstore manager, replacing Bobbie Zerfas, who after a two-year effort has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will be leaving for her new assignment in May.

This position is available immediately to accommodate training of a new individual prior to Zerfas’ departure, says Don Meyer, executive minister of the Department of Communication that manages the Evangelical Covenant Church Internet program and website, including the online Covenant Bookstore. This position works directly with the executive minister.

Responsibilities include:
•    On-line store: Post and maintain listings and illustrations for all bookstore items, both paid retail merchandise and free resource materials.
•    Customer service: Respond to customer product questions as well as customer and supplier inquiries about order status; arrange to provide onsite bookstores for major Covenant events.
•    Procurement/buying: Purchase merchandise, establish selling prices, approve bills for payment, and manage inventory.
•    Stockroom/warehouse: Drive delivery van to transport stock from off-site warehouse to internal stockroom; manage all inventory, including loading/unloading, arrangement of stock, disposing of excess inventory, maintain equipment and supplies in storage areas, supervise other stockroom employees, and verify inventory levels.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) – one to two years of college is desirable; one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet skills, and a valid driver’s license. Negotiating skills are helpful, as is a general business understanding of cost/revenue relationships and profitability.

The individual must have a deep commitment to the mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church and the purposes of the Department of Communication. The person must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a professional and prompt manner. The individual must have the ability to work with limited direction, take initiative, and have the ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with limited supervision, organizing the schedule and duties in order to complete responsibilities. The position demands accuracy and the ability to maintain confidentiality. The individual must be courteous and relate well to internal and external customers. The person must be tactful and possess good communication skills (written and verbal, English) and be able to communicate effectively with staff and others with whom this position has contact. The individual must be able to travel two to three times per year to operate the off-site major event bookstores.
