CHICAGO, IL (April 16, 2007) – Following is the job description for the online Covenant Bookstore manager position.

Online Covenant Bookstore manager

The Evangelical Covenant Church is seeking an online Covenant Bookstore Manager to start May 1, 2007 in the Department of Communication.

The successful candidate will have:
•    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) – one to two years of college is desirable.
•    One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Advanced MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Internet skills
•    Negotiating skills are helpful
•    General business understanding of cost/revenue relationships and profitability
•    Valid driver’s license

This position reports to the executive minister of Covenant Communications. The online Covenant Bookstore manager is responsible for the following: On-line Store: Arrange, post, update and maintain listings and illustrations for all items for online purchase and all free and paid resource materials; Customer Service: Answer customers’ questions about products and advise customers on merchandise selection; Respond to customer and supplier inquiries about order status, changes, or cancellations; Arrange to provide onsite bookstores for major Covenant events; Procurement / Buying: Purchase merchandise; Work closely with vendors to obtain and develop desired products; Set or recommend mark-up / mark-down rates, and selling prices for merchandise; Introduce new merchandise; Negotiate and maintain partner agreements; Approve bills for payment; Calculate costs of orders, and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts; Maintain knowledge of all departmental rules affecting purchases, and provide information about these rules to employees and to vendors; Monitor in-house inventory movement; Perform buying duties when necessary; Stockroom / Warehouse: Drive van in order to pick up stock from warehouse to stockroom; Determine proper storage methods, identification, and stock location; Load, unload, or stack containers, materials, or products; Mark stock items; Pack and unpack items to be stocked; Examine and inspect stock items; Dispose of excess, obsolete, damaged or defective items, or return them to vendors; Process returned merchandise; Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas; Provide assistance or direction to other stockroom workers; Verify inventory computations.

The individual must have a deep commitment to the mission of the Evangelical Covenant Church, and the purposes of the Department of Communication. The person must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a professional and prompt manner. The individual must have the ability to work with limited direction, take initiative, and have the ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with limited supervision, organizing own schedule and duties in order to complete responsibilities. The position demands accuracy and the ability to maintain confidentiality. The individual must be courteous and relate well to internal and external customers. The person must be tactful and possess good communication skills (written and verbal, English) and be able to communicate effectively with staff and others with whom this position has contact. The individual must be able to travel several times per year.
