Blackwood was born July 10, 1914, in Brainerd, Minnesota. She graduated in 1935 from Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School. She married Walter the same year.

For the first 10 years of their marriage, the couple lived in the Twin Cities area where Walter worked and took part as a musician in many evangelistic meetings. During the years at Lake Jennie, Walter also occasionally served the Lake Union Covenant Church.

After Walter retired in 1973, the couple attended Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel. He died in 1974.

Blackwood remained active in the church and was particularly well-known for her visitation. She also worked at the Dassel Elementary School and was an active volunteer at the Dassel Lakeside Home.

In addition to her husband, Blackwood was preceded in death by her son, Robert Blackwood, and daughter, Caroline Hoffman. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Diane Blackwood, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
