TOKYO, JAPAN (February 19, 2007) – Delegates from all 23 congregations of the Japan Covenant Church (NSKK) elected a new chair of the denomination at the Annual Meeting held February 12.

Delegates elected Yasushi Shimizu to a two-year term to succeed Masami Katsumoto, who completed his time in office.

Besides the election of Shimizu, a highlight of the meeting was the licensing of several ministers and the ordination of Shigeyuki Otomo, says Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Jim Peterson. The meeting opened with praise and worship and a meditation by outgoing denominational chair. During the meeting, delegates heard reports from the previous year and approved the new budget. The chair of the ministerium, Yoshio Umeda, closed the event with a celebration of communion.
