Service Held for Retired Pastor Frederick Shoemaker

ALEXANDRIA, MN (February 13, 2007) – Word has been received of the death of retired Covenant pastor Frederick A. Shoemaker, who served two Evangelical Covenant churches in Minnesota.

Shoemaker, 85, died February 1. A funeral service was held February 6 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Alexandria. He served the Alexandria congregation for 11 years. He previously was pastor of Fairview (Minnesota) Covenant Church for 11 years.

He was born October 5, 1921, in Cazenovia, New York. He married Oris Erickson on June 30, 1951. She survives.

Shoemaker graduated from the State Teachers College in Albany, New York, and then graduated with honors from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was ordained in the United Methodist Church in 1953 and served several churches before working briefly worked with the Oriental Mission Society in Atlanta, Georgia. Shoemaker transferred his ordination to the ECC in 1963.

In addition to Oris, survivors include two sons, John Shoemaker, of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Paul Shoemaker, of Edina, Minnesota.
