Memorial Service Conducted for Gary Carlson

BATAVIA, IL (January 8, 2007) – A memorial service for Gary Carlson, former administrator at two Covenant Retirement Communities, was conducted Saturday morning at Batavia Covenant Church. Carlson, 55, died unexpectedly January 1 at his home.

Beginning in 1986, Carlson was the administrator at Covenant Shores Retirement Community in Mercer Island. He subsequently served as associate administrator at The Holmstad in Batavia from 1992 to 1999.

He was born June 2, 1951, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Roger and Kathryn Carlson. He graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1969, attended the University of Minnesota, and graduated from North Park College in 1974. He married Meredith Tournell on May 29, 1976, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

In 1997, Carlson received a Master’s in Business Administration degree from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.

Carlson was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and most recently was a member of Batavia Covenant Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter, Lauren; sons, Bryce and Sten; his father, Roger, and his mother, Kathryn; his brother, Tom Carlson; and his sister, Joan Brand. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Stephen.
