CHICAGO, IL (April 14, 2006) – Editor’s note: In preparation for Easter, Covenant Communications is sharing a series of devotionals. The following comes from Stan Friedman, staff writer and ordained Covenant pastor.

There – nailed to the cross, stranded, bleeding, gasping, crying, “My God! My God!” – there is the truth, bitter and beautiful.

Behold ! See what your sin has wrought.

Yes, your sin, as much as anyone’s. No reason to compare really, yet still the protest, “At least I’m not like….” Go ahead. Insert the names. List them all, if it makes you feel better. But you’ve been caught.

So confess. That’s all there is left to do really. Confess that your sin made it all come to this. Confess that despite your feelings of guilt and sorrow, you’re glad it’s him and not you up there; you wouldn’t trade places with him if you could.

Confess that his thoughts are not your thoughts and that his ways are not your ways. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so also are his ways higher than your ways. You can’t begin to comprehend the breadth, the length, the height and depth.

Confess – so much greater is his love than your love.

It is the truth, bitter and beautiful.
