CHICAGO, IL (March 15, 2006) – North Park University Vikings player Laura Mount was one of three players unanimously selected to the First Team CCIW Women’s Basketball All-Conference Team, it has been announced. Evie Peterson was named to the Third Team.

Mount, a 5-9 junior guard from Elgin, Illinois, was a major reason the team improved its record, defeated several nationally ranked teams this year and made the conference post-season tournament.

“She clearly elevated her game,” said Jack Surridge, athletic director and head coach for the women’s basketball team. “She’s statistically up about six points per game.”

She also placed in the top 10 of five categories based on conference play. Mount ranked:

  • Second in steals, heisting 35 (2.5 per game average)
  • Second in turnover to assist ration (.86)
  • Fourth in scoring with 214 points (15.3)
  • Fourth in assists, with 43 (3.07)
  • Ninth in field goal percentage, shooting 66-145 (.455)
  • Tied for ninth in minutes played totaling 462 (33.0)
  • 12th in free throw percentage, making 70 of 97 (.722)

Peterson is a 5-11 sophomore from Eagan, Minnesota. She ranked:

  • Fourth in offensive rebounds with 39 (2.79 per game average)
  • 13th in defensive rebounds, grabbing 54 (3.86)
  • Eighth in total rebounding, pulling down 93 (6.6)
  • 11th in scoring with 160 (11.4)
  • 11th in steals, taking away 23 (1.64)

This is the first year for Peterson to play with the team – she attended Covenant Bible College-Canada last year. She attends Eagan Covenant Church.

Surridge said he was pleased for the recognition the women received and the reflection on the team overall. “I think we got some pretty good respect,” he says.
