FRESNO, CA (February 17, 2006) – Seventeen-year-old Amy Haworth has been released from the hospital after suffering injuries in an accident a week ago Sunday.

The daughter of Evangelical Covenant Church missionaries Jay and Ellen Haworth, Amy suffered a dislocated hip, which was put back into place following the accident, as well as damage to her liver. Later reports indicated her liver was continuing to heal and that surgery would not be required.

However, complications set in after fluid was detected in the lungs and she developed a fever, requiring an extended hospital stay. The fever later dissipated and the lungs cleared, allowing for her release.

“All of her blood tests are normal and we are especially pleased with her liver function, which is much better than expected,” her parents reported in an email to friends. “Now that the intense pain from her liver and lung injury has begun to subside, she is beginning to feel the pain of her left hip, which was dislocated at the time of her accident. She will have to be very careful over the next four weeks, but she grows steadily stronger each day. Her progress in the last 24 hours is nothing short of miraculous.”

Amy faces difficult rehabilitation and a challenging home study program to help her catch up on missed homework, her parents state, “but her spirits are high and she is so thankful to be back home in Kingsburg again. We would like to thank all of you for praying for Amy and our family during this very difficult time. The Lord has given strength and encouragement for each day and lots of hope for Amy’s complete recovery.”
